My Story
There are 34 known symptoms associated with the menopause and some sail through relatively symptom free, but others are not so lucky. My personal mission, aligned with that of the Menopause Movement Organisation, is to share evidence based information, dismiss the myths and guide you to the best action you can take to improve your mental and physical wellbeing at this time of your life. My personal journey has led me to practice and now teach/share Chi-Kung (qi-gong), an effective mindful movement particularly approaching and during perimenopause, as well as way beyond.
I’m a qualified acupuncturist, with a background as a paramedic I have a broad understanding of anatomy and health physiology from both the Western and Eastern perspectives. I prefer a holistic approach which views you as an individual, and more than a sum of your parts. Which considers and accepts that your mind, body and spirit are all affected by the biological changes around and beyond your menopause. This also means I can help you to make positive differences to all three, by way of new mindful movements using both Dragonfly Chi-Kung and traditional Chi-Kung (also known as qi-gong pronounced chee-gong).
My own menopause happened before I was 40. It seemed too soon and as far as symptoms went I also didn’t fall into the “lucky” category, I have personal experience of and understand first hand the benefits of HRT. We are now living longer post menopause and there is much evidence to prove HRT is beneficial beyond treating the obvious and short term symptoms. I know the combination of Mindfulness and Movement have worked well for me, and incidentally these are two of the modalities which also have the most positive and promising evidence. This is why 15 years later, I am committed to practicing and teaching Chi Kung (which combines both). In order to really cement my own menopause related education I have also completed the training and I am a member of The Menopause Movement Organisation.
I am the founder of the Zenergy Festival – the first wellness festival focusing entirely on the menopause. I look forward to meeting you.
